It’s been a short while since our last newsletter because we’ve been exceptionally busy improving our systems and delivering outstanding projects!

While our service team remained available over the Christmas holiday period, we used this quieter time to enhance our internal systems. These upgrades ensure a smoother, faster, and more responsive service for our customers.

Ultra Support App!

Our service team is now beta-testing our new Ultra Support App for iPhone and iPad.

The new app empowers our engineers to:

  • Remotely monitor systems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues faster
  • Stay ahead with proactive, data-driven support.

Why We Moo-ved Email Management In-House

At Ultra, we’ve transitioned from relying on cloud services like Microsoft 365 to managing our email systems in-house. This strategic move brings several key benefits:

  1. Cost Savings
    Eliminates recurring subscription fees, significantly reducing operational expenses while maintaining full functionality.
  2. Enhanced Security and Control
    Ensures sensitive information stays within our organisation’s infrastructure, providing peace of mind for our team and clients.
  3. Customisation and Flexibility
    Our in-house setup allows us to tailor email functionalities to better integrate with our workflows, improving efficiency and responsiveness.
  4. Improved Reliability
    Cloud services are very reliable, however any external outages are beyond our control. We’ve taken proactive steps to regain control and ensure uninterrupted communication.

We’ve also upgraded to CircleLoop, a modern, app-based telephone system that has revolutionised how we communicate:

    Desktop and mobile apps enable seamless communication from desktops, smartphones, or tablets—perfect for the office, remote work and on-site teams.

Cutting-Edge Refrigeration for Cold Storage

Ultra has delivered a groundbreaking refrigeration solution for Dale Brothers, transforming their 55m x 20m x 6m coldstore for palletised chilled products. Combining innovative technology, bespoke engineering, and seamless collaboration with industry partners, this project is a testament to our expertise in designing and implementing efficient, reliable refrigeration systems.

Key Features of the Dale Brothers Coldstore

1. Unique Air Delivery System

Our custom-designed air delivery system ensures even distribution of chilled air throughout the entire coldstore, maintaining consistent temperatures for all palletised products. This system works in harmony with advanced controls to optimise performance:

  • Energy Savings with Rotational Shutdown: The system can automatically shut down one of the two iAir refrigeration units on a rotational basis when cooling demand is low, reducing energy usage without compromising air distribution or temperature stability.
  • Stable Temperature Control: The system ensures reliable and consistent cooling conditions, critical for preserving chilled products.

2. Bespoke LED Temperature Display

One standout feature of the project is the large, highly visible LED temperature display. Designed to be seen clearly across the expansive 55m coldstore.

  • Ultra’s Expertise: Our design process included 3D printing, bespoke programming, and the use of addressable LED strips to create a robust, cutting-edge solution.
  • Visual Fault Alerts: The display changes colour, with red indicating high-temperature faults, ensuring quick and intuitive responses from staff.
  • Ease of Monitoring: Its size and clarity make it an indispensable tool for ensuring coldstore efficiency and product safety.

3. iAir Systems for Energy Efficiency

The coldstore features two iAir units that take advantage of ambient conditions to deliver efficient cooling. By utilising outside air when suitable, the system significantly reduces energy consumption, along with the use of natural refrigerants makes the concept a sustainable and low carbon solution.

Seamless Collaboration with Partners

This project’s success was contributed to by the collaboration of trusted industry partners:

  • Peter Crown Associates: Supplied the air handling units.
  • ECO-Duct: Provided insulated ducting for on-site assembly.
  • RDM: PLC and BMS supplier
  • Tech-Weld: Delivered bespoke steelwork.
    All components were manufactured to Ultra Refrigeration’s concise and complete 3D CAD specifications, ensuring a perfect fit and smooth integration.

Custom Control System for Peak Performance

The coldstore is equipped with RDM controllers and custom-designed software, offering:

  • Remote Monitoring: Staff can manage and monitor the system via the internet for flexibility and quick response.
  • Exceptional User Interface: An intuitive design simplifies operations.
  • Energy Optimisation: Intelligent controls automatically adjust to reduce energy consumption while maintaining performance.
